Alternative Wedding Photography

Whether it’s a full blown family shindig, an urban micro-wedding or a wild, wonderful (and quite possibly weather beaten) elopement, I will document all the antics of your special day in a fun, relaxed and candid way. The result? Photos that are spontaneous, a little bit cheeky, playful, creative, NOT cheesy, and above all authentic to you as a couple. Here you can have a gander at some of my previous work; if you like what you see, get in touch and let's chat!

So what do I mean when I say documentary style photography? Well, I mean natural, relaxed and as candid as possible. I aim to capture the events of your day as they unfold, with as little intervention from me as possible. That's not to say I won't guide you when you need a little help, and of course you'll still get all the group and family portraits, but I believe the real beauty of your day exists outside my influence. So you do you and I'll do the rest.

Not much of poser? Not a problem. My work is all about capturing real, authentic moments over striking that perfect pose. Sure I'll guide you and direct you to get the best composition where needed, but I'll never ask you to do anything that you're not comfortable with. Let's celebrate you as you are, not pose as something you're not.

For me, the secret to great wedding photography is good storytelling. And the key to a great story? Well, it’s all in the details – those tiny, fleeting, imperfect, sometimes messy, but oh-so-authentic little details. Trust me, they’re more significant than you might think.

Okay, time for the nitty gritty – let’s talk pricing. I offer three wedding pricing options as standard. Of course, every wedding is unique; get in touch and I’ll happily send you a personalised quote tailored specifically to your day.
The wee one
This is the perfect package for small weddings (I count a small wedding as anything under 30 guests) that don’t require full day photography coverage from start to finish. Having a big do but don't feel the need to have a photographer there all day? I get it. Four hours usually covers the ceremony through to speeches pretty comfortably; of course I’m more than happy to advise if you’re unsure.
STARTING FROM
£1,250
The Big one
If you’re looking for complete coverage of your wedding day with no clock watching, this is the one for you. Full day coverage gets you all those gorgeous getting ready shots in the morning before the ceremony all the way through to the moment your guests let loose and throw some shapes on the dance floor (and then some), I’ll stick with you for the entire day and capture each and every moment, big and small. Not sure 10 hours is enough? You can always add on more coverage to your day.
STARTING FROM
£2,150
The teeny tiny one
Cute wedding pics without the fuss.
This is the perfect wee package if you'd like to keep things super simple. This could be an intimate ceremony at Edinburgh City Chambers with handful of your favourite people, followed by some relaxed portraits afterwards. Or maybe an Aurthur's Seat elopement overlooking the city is more what you had in mind? Whatever you have planned, I'd love to capture it for you.

Additional Costs
I’m based in Edinburgh, but I travel all over the country and beyond for weddings. Travel within 30 miles of my home is included in my overall fee. Depending on distance, overnight accommodation may be also required. For destination weddings, I’ll be happy to calculate a bespoke quote on request.

Whoever you are, whatever you're into and whoever you choose to love, you are welcome here. Whether you're an introvert, extrovert or somewhere in between, you are welcome here. Whatever your race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, abilities and beliefs, you are welcome here.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does “documentary-style” photography actually mean?
Great question. When I say documentary-style, I mean natural, relaxed and as candid and unobtrusive as possible. I aim to capture the events of your day as they unfold, with as little intervention or choreographing as possible. The result is honest coverage of all the big moments you want to remember, plus some wee ones you might have missed!
But how will we know what to do, we’re so awkward in front of the camera!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this! But you have nothing to worry about. I’m all about capturing authentic moments over getting you to strike that perfect pose. Sure, I'll guide you to get the best shot possible but I'll never ask you to do anything that you're not completely comfortable with. Let's celebrate you as you are, not pose as something you're not.
Can we see a full gallery?
Of course! I'm more than happy to show you a full gallery so you can see how I document an entire wedding day from start to finish. Let me know what vibe you're going for and the kind of venue you have in mind and I'll ping over a few past galleries with a similar feel for you to have a look through.
Do you shoot 35mm film photography as well as digital?
Abso-bloody-lutely! Nothing beats the magic of film – it’s such a timeless way to document your day. If you choose to have me shoot your day on 35mm film, I’ll always do so alongside shooting digital, not instead. Film is beautiful, but it ain’t foolproof.
Do you travel for weddings?
I'm based in Leith, in north Edinburgh, but I do travel around the country for weddings! I don't charge for travel within 30 miles of my home in Edinburgh (EH6); anything over 30 miles is charged at 50p per mile within the UK. Depending on distance, overnight accommodation may also be required. For weddings that are further afield, just drop me a line and I will be happy to calculate a bespoke quote for you.
What is your booking process?
First up, I encourage you to have a good old rummage around my website and Instagram to get a feel for my style. I like to chat to my couples before booking so if you like what you see, get in touch and we can either arrange a video call or meet in person if you're local. When you're ready to book, I ask for a 20% deposit to reserve your date, with the remaining fee payable at least 2 weeks before your wedding day. Of course, I'll be in touch regularly to keep up to date with your plans, and I'll be available if you have any questions before the big day.
How much do you charge for weddings?
Every wedding day is different, so I offer a variety of pricing options to suit your needs, whether that’s a one-hour engagement shoot, an intimate elopement or a multi-day wedfest extravaganza. All my pricing is listed on my website, and I’ll be more than happy to provide you with a detailed quote specific to your day, just get in touch via my website.
What's a second shooter and do I need one?
A "second shooter" or "second photographer" is someone who works alongside the main photographer on your day to photograph different angles, different situations and assist the photographer throughout your wedding day. While you're having couples portraits taken, the second shooter will capture candid shots of your guests mingling for example.
Though not always essential, second shooters can be an amazing addition to your day if you want to capture simultaneous action. The photographer can only be in one place at a time after all! I normally recommend a second shooter for large weddings or for weddings where the couple are getting ready at different locations. The price is an additional £450 to cover an additional photographer for the day and the extra editing time for me. If you're not too sure about this one I'm always happy to advise!
How many images will you take on our wedding day?
This is totally dependent on the type of wedding I’m shooting, but as a minimum I usually say around 500 for a full day of photography, though it's often more. There's no point in me holding back certain images just to keep the numbers down: If it's a good pic, you're getting it! There will be some that don’t make the cut of course, but you get all the images that I keep and fully edit. Those that don't make the cut will most likely be duplicates, blinkers or blurry (in a non artsy way!)
How late will you stay on a full wedding day?
My full day is ten hours, and usually that's plenty time for me to capture some dancefloor action before I leave you to it. However, you can always add more time if you feel like that's not quite enough. One of my favourite parts of a wedding day to photograph is the party. The more formal aspects are done, your guests are hyped on the energy of the day, and you’re all warmed up after a fair few tipples. Now you can let loose and throw some epic shapes on the dance floor. Rather than rush off right after your first dance, this is when I love to get creative and create some dance floor magic!
Do we need to feed you?
If I’m shooting a full day for you then yes please, I would really appreciate that! It’s a long day and there aren’t many opportunities for a rest, so a hot meal while you're all having your dinner is necessary to keep me going. It doesn’t have to be what your guests are eating, but it should be at the same time so that I don’t miss anything.
How will you deliver our photos?
Your photos will be delivered via your own online gallery. From here you can easily view and download your images, share them with friends and family, order prints, and make any selections should you wish to purchase a wedding album from me.
How long until we can see our photos?
I know you'll be super keen to see your photos, so I usually send 10–15 preview images within a few days of your wedding, with your fully edited gallery following within 8–12 weeks.
Do you offer prints and albums?
I do indeed! It's so easy these days to have thousands of photos hidden away on our phones and laptops, only ever to be viewed on screen. Don't be that guy! There's nothing like seeing your wedding photos in their full printed glory. It's super easy to order prints and albums through your online gallery store. Get in touch and I can walk you through the options.
